Instructions for Applying Online(Graduate)

 

INSTRUCTIONS

Before filling out the Online Application for Graduate Students, please carefully read the instructions that follow.

  • Please complete the online application no later than 30 days prior to the beginning of the semester you wish to be admitted.
  • Be sure to fill out all parts of the Online Application. Optional information is labeled as such.
  • When you have completed each page of the application, click "Submit" or "Next" and you will be taken to the following page.

In addition to the application all applicants must submit the following:

  • $40.00 non-refundable Application Fee is required for all programs listed below, except for the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership (Ed.D)., which requires a $50.00 non-refundable Application Fee, and the Doctoral Program in Computer Science and Engineering, which requires a $75.00 non-refundable application fee. (Check or money order made payable to the University of Bridgeport.)
  • Official college transcripts from every school attended, indicating degree(s) earned and date(s). Undergraduate transcripts must show clear evidence of the capacity for independent study and the ability to pursue graduate work.
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation from employers, professors, or associates.

THE GRADUATE PROGRAMS LISTED BELOW HAVE THE FOLLOWING ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

School of Business (MBA)

  • Applicants for admission to the MBA program who received a bachelor's degree within the previous three years, and those who do not qualify as "experienced professionals" (as described below), must take the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT).
  • Applicants who have graduated from a business degree program with a GPA of 3.5 or higher will be waived from providing the GMAT.
  • A personal statement which includes personal objectives and reasons for wanting to undertake MBA study in the School of Business must be presented in the space provided on the Online Application.
  • "Experienced professionals" are those applicants who have been working in a managerial or professional position for at least three years. Factors to be considered include number of years in an exempt position along with level and nature of responsibilities, and/or graduate degrees or professional certifications.
  • Professional applicants should provide the following items: resume indicating managerial responsibilities for at least the past three years; letter of recommendation from your employment superior; any evidence of professional certification in field requiring preparatory university education (such as CPA, DFA, LLD, MD, DDS, etc.); and the personal statement referred to above.

Nutrition Institute Applicants

  • Applicants to the MS in Human Nutrition must submit two letters of recommendation on letterhead containing the contact information of the individuals preparing the letters.
  • It is mandatory to submit a personal statement of between 250 and 500 words detailing why you are interested in pursing education in the field of clinical nutrition, what professional aspirations you have related to the field, and why you specifically want to be a part of the program at U.B.   Any other related information, such as past experiences involving nutrition and health care, that you would like to address in your statement to be used as a part of the admissions selection process is also encouraged. 

 

School of Education and Human Resources Counseling and Human Resources (M.S.)

The Counseling and Human Resources

This program requires a supplemental application and two special recommendation forms that can be obtained by calling the Department of Counseling and Human Resources at (203) 576-4175.

Candidates for Teacher Certifcation Programs

  • Applicants must have a cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.67 or above on a 4.0 scale.
  • Entrance into Teacher Certification is contingent upon passing all three parts of Praxis I-PPST of submitting an official Essential Skills Testing waiver letter.
  • Applicants must complete the Teacher Certification Application in addition to the Graduate Application.
  • Applicants must submit a 350-word typed essay. The focus of the essay is outlined in the Teacher Certification Application.
  • Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation. See details in the Teacher Certification Application.
  • If you plan to participate in the Tuition-free Internship, you must complete the Internship Application.

Candidates for the Sixth Year Certificate of Advanced Studies in Administration and Supervision (including the 092 Program)

  • Please request the Sixth Year Administration Application from the Graduate Admissions Office (203-576-4552).

Candidates for the Master of Science or Sixth Year Certificate of Advanced Studies in Reading and Language Arts (including the Reading consultant Program)

  • Applicants must complete the Application for Teacher Certification-Track Program in Reading and Language Arts in addition to the Graduate Application.
  • Applicants must have a cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.67 or above on a 4.0 scale.
  • Applicants must have a valid Connecticut teaching certificate (or proof of eligibility).
  • Applicants must have completed 30 months of successful teaching to be considered for certification. You may apply for the program prior to meeting this requirement.
  • Applicants must submit at least two letters of recommendation from persons able to testify to your suitability as a prospective reading teacher and your potential for graduate study.
  • Applicants must submit a 350-word essay setting out the reasons for wanting to enroll in the Reading Program and emphasizing experience relevant to teaching.

Candidates for the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership (ED.D). 

  • Applicant’s must have a cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 2.67 or above on a 4.0 scale as well as a Master’s degree from an accredited university.
  • Applicants must present a superior score on the Miller Analogies test (MAT). For more information about the MAT, please contact the program director at the School of Education at (203) 576-4574.

  • Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation, one each from a colleague and a supervisor, attesting to the applicant’s demonstrated leadership, potential for further leadership development and the ability to benefit from doctoral study.

  • Applicant must submit a supplemental letter of 350 words. The letter should include:                    

    - A statement of your reasons for wanting to undertake doctoral studies 
    - A description of your most significant personal and professional accomplishments
    - The extent to which your personal and professional responsibilities will allow you to devote the neccessary time and effort to the program of study
                                                                    
  • Applicants must submit a letter from their employer indicating that they havepermission to be released from their regular responsibilities to participate in the continuing doctoral seminars. These seminars are held on six Fridays and Saturdays during each academic year for a two-week period during each summer session.

Candidates for Mod Map, Sixth Year Elementary or Secondary Education

  • Applicants must submit the Graduate Application along with two letters of recommendation, an essay and official transcripts for all universities attended.

     

Important Note for International Students:

International Students should only fill out the Application for International Students. There is no need to fill out any other application.
