President’s Message

Welcome to the University of Bridgeport’s website. This site invites you to join Connecticut’s fasting growing, and one of America’s most diverse, universities: UB. The University of Bridgeport is known internationally for developing career-minded professionals who understand their world and desire to serve as community leaders and service-oriented professionals. And we would like you to make your mark in the next class.
Located in historic New England on the Connecticut shoreline—in sight of the Long Island Sound’s breathtaking vistas—our campus is home to an 80-year tradition of educating students to make a difference in the world. The campus and region, including the nearby treasures of New York City and Boston, provide an unparalleled context for study, professional aspiration, and growth. No wonder we attract students from 90 countries and 34 states. A UB degree is a passport to global citizenship.
The University values diversity, and we ask the student body to learn from it. Nowhere else in America is diversity prized more and put to better use. In classrooms and social activities, on the athletic field and in our design studios, University students form a community drawn from around the world. The University’s primary academic commitment—our mission—ensures that students receive personal attention from their professors, encounter the world’s diverse cultural resources, and experience intellectual and emotional support.
Whether you to receive high-quality education in the liberal arts, to gain cutting-edge knowledge of computer science and engineering, or to pursue specialized academic training in business, the arts, or the health sciences, the University will afford you opportunities to grow and express leadership potential. Your classmates will offer you valuable insight into the centrality of culture, the meaning of political events, and the uniqueness of each perspective. Learning alongside them will help you experience the world of tomorrow, one day at a time, in a learning environment that provides caring support and appropriate challenge.
Many of our students that UB is a place to make life-long friends and form professional associations that hold deep promise. Our students are encouraged to join student clubs, to lead in student government, and to express commitment in community service. These enjoyable extracurricular activities provide a setting in which untapped aspects of your character and talents can come to light. Most importantly, many students tell me that UB is their home away from home.
The UB community takes pride in knowing that enrollment at UB begins a lifelong association, first as a student and later as a member of our distinguished alumni.
I will be happy to answer any questions you might have, and I appreciate your feedback about the University. Please feel free to email me at president@bridgeport.edu.
I look forward to hearing from you, and I would very much like to meet you on campus.
Sincerely,
Neil Albert Salonen, President
