Business Mentorship Program successfully launched

The first cohort of students selected for the Business Mentorship Program met their mentors in Mandeville 203 for the first time in the afternoon of April 23.

Only students in the freshman class whose GPA met the minimum requirement in the first semester were selected for this program. Mentors are professionals and managers who volunteer their time for the multi-year mentoring relationship. They represent a variety of companies and organizations, including SCORE, Homestead Studio Suites, Universal Printing, People's Bank, Spinnaker Capital Partners, Deloitte & Touche, and Wachovia Bank.

These mentors are expected to help their students on a one-on-one basis to see the relevance of the business knowledge obtained in the classroom by offering field trips, internships, site visits, and other real-world business connections. Students in this program are also expected to conduct empirical studies on real-life organizations or practical problems.

The mentorship will officially begin in Fall 2004 and continue through the sophomore, junior, and senior years until the students graduate from UB.
