Outreach
The following outreach projects have involved/or are involving
the University of Bridgeport and Bridgeport Public Schools:
- BOSE: the BOSE Corporation, University of Bridgeport and
Bridgeport Schools sponsor this project. It involves mathematics,
science and music and serves approximately 2000 middle school
students.
- ConnCAP: The University of Bridgeport sponsors summer
and weekend programs, which exposes students in the 9th through
12th grades to topics in English, Science, Math and Technology. It
prepares them for College entrance.
- Gear Up: The School of Education provides office and
classroom space for the state sponsored Gear Up program, which
offers academic preparation for Bridgeport students for
college.
- Scholarship Fund: We provide two scholarships per year
to students from Longfellow, Multicultural Magnet and Roosevelt.
The scholarship provides four-year free tuition to the University
of Bridgeport upon graduation from high school.
- Mathematics:
* Tutoring
* Math Day
* Equity workshop (EMELI) in conjunction with the University of
California-Santa Barbara.
* Teachers in Bridgeport teach in math education program at UB.
* Curriculum development with Bridgeport schools
* Math Meets for Bridgeport schools
- Science: Professors at the University of Bridgeport work
with teachers
at Bassick and Central High Schools to help students in science and
support Science teachers.
- Reading and Language Tutoring: Students in the
Reading Consultant Program at UB help elementary students improve
reading skills.
- Technology Program: Programs sponsored in
conjunction with SBC/SNET that help teachers in Roosevelt School
improve computer literacy.
- Multicultural Day (1999-2002): Student Art exhibited at
UB.
- Talent Search: Undergraduate students from UB work with
talented students in the city of Bridgeport.
