Systems Administrator - Library

The Systems Administrator plays a leadership role in researching, implementing and maintaining new technologies to position the Wahlstrom Library for next generation excellence. This individual acts as application administrator for all relevant systems, including the ExLibris software suite of Primo, SFX, MetaLib and Voyager; the Library Web presence; Blackboard Instruction shells; Turnitin; Smartboard and other classroom technologies. This individual works closely with Instruction and Information Literacy Librarians, the Project Analyst and IT staff in a blended team to support workflow optimization and operational efficiency of all Library processes. The Systems Administrator is responsible for creation and maintenance of user documentation, as well as training initiatives. In addition, he/she will participate in ongoing technology research, and playing a key role in management presentations and teaching initiatives. Must team effectively with Faculty, Librarians and site IT staff to align Library technologies with University, accreditation, and professional best practice standards.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Works closely with Director to lead UB Library into next generation technology platform.
- Maintains all current Library systems, including the ExLibris software suite of Primo, SFX, MetaLib and Voyager; the Library Web presence; Blackboard Instruction shells; Turnitin; Smartboard and other classroom technologies. Performs application and server level duties as required, including upgrades, backup, testing, etc.
- Oversees Library Web presence.
- Acts a vendor liaison.
- As requested, delivers instructional modules in classroom and workshops to Faculty, staff and students.
- Works closely on University committees and task teams to represent Library technology direction, and ensure it is aligned with administrative and instructional technologies.
- Provides management reports upon request.
- Supports all technology service requests from Library departments, including reference, technical and access services, serials management, and information literacy.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Library, Information Science, Computer Science or related degree. Degree or coursework in instructional technology or computer related subject strongly preferred. One year experience in providing technology support, including library systems, digital journal/book access and website maintenance, in an academic or special library is preferred.
- Experience in managing open URL technologies, particularly SFX and Metalib.
- Experience or course work in UNIX systems administration, CGI, Perl scripting, SQL and Oracle highly desirable.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience with Blackboard, Turnitin, and ExLibris software, highly desirable.
- Understanding and experience in project management techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to implement web pages.
- Ability to create electronic tutorials.
- Excellent communication skills, including speaking to groups.
- Demonstrated ability to work in teams, flexible and able to acquire new skills.
