Attending University after ESL Classes

English Language Requirement

Completion of ELI satisfies the "English language requirement" for admission to degree programs of the University of Bridgeport. ELI graduates are not required to take the TOEFL or other proficiency test.

Applications

Students who know they want to continue at UB after ELI can apply for Conditional Acceptance directly to UB. If they are determined by the University to be qualified for admission, they will get University acceptance and UB I-20 and can study at ELI until they meet the English language requirement.

Students who are at ELI on an ELI I-20 and decide to continue at UB after they graduate, can apply while they are here. If accepted, we easily transfer their SEVIS record to UB and they will be issued a new I-20. It is recommended that students apply to UB as soon as possible. It is not a good idea to wait until they graduate from ELI.

ELI staff will be happy to help students meet admission counselors and academic advisors at the University.
