Weekend Program

The weekend program is designed to meet the rigorous schedule of the working individual. Classes are held, on the Bridgeport campus, only one weekend per month, Saturday and Sunday, 9am-5pm, for eighteen consecutive months. The program is full-time, constitutes four semesters with two courses being offered each semester. The eight required courses of the core curriculum and the project thesis can be completed in eighteen months, if the student chooses. Alternatively, the student is allowed one semester to complete the thesis, after the completion of all course work.

An accelerated weekend pre-human nutrition program, offering introductory biochemistry and human anatomy and physiology, is available for prospective students who need to fulfill prerequisite course requirements.

The program supports the acquisition, utilization, and application of nutrition principles in clinical situation Coursework is designed to assist the student in gaining proficiency in counseling clients/patients in alternative and complementary nutritional therapies. In addition, the program provides an opportunity for medical, chiropractic, and other healthcare providers to expand their practice through knowledge gained from graduate studies in nutrition.

The Human Nutrition Institute also offers an annual Practice Management Workshop and internship opportunities, one of which is available through the Connecticut Certified Nutritionist Office, located on the Bridgeport Campus. These opportunities are available to aid in the preparation of students and graduates for career success.

Schedule of Courses

The M.S. in Human Nutrition core curriculum is conducted in eighteen month cycles consisting of four semesters. Two courses are taught within each semester. A new cycle begins each year in Spring (January) and Fall (September).

Offered twice per year; May – August and September – December

  • Nutrition 121 Anatomy & Physiology I & II (6 credits)
  • Nutrition 122 Intro to Biochemistry (4 credits)

  • Nutr 560S Basic Nutrition Seminar (occurs between 1st and 2nd semesters)

  • Nutr 560D Clinical Biochemistry - 3 credits

THIRD SEMESTER - July to October

  • Nutr 560E Assessment of Nutritional Status - 3 credits
  • Nutr 560H Developmental Nutrition - 3 credits

FOURTH SEMESTER - November to February
Courses:

  • Nutr 560F Nutritional Therapeutics - 4 credits
  • Nutr 560M Clinical Epidemiology and Statistical Reasoning - 3 credits
