Naturopathic History and Philosophy.
This course is a survey and introduction to the history and
philosophy of Naturopathic Medicine as a distinct healing art as
well as its fundamental roots: Botanical Medicine, Nature Cure,
Physical Medicine, Hydrotherapy, Homeopathy, Energy Medicine and
Ancient Healing systems from around the globe. We will also
explore the politics of medicine, women and healing,
psychoneuroimmunology, the philosophy of vitalism and mechanism,
shamanic and entheogrenic healing and encourage students to
"live their philosophy" incorporating the precepts of
Naturopathic medicine into their lifestyles.

PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE 512
Philosophy of Naturopathic Medicine.
Naturopathic philosophy recognizes when the conditions for
health exists, healing will prevail. Traditional water
therapies, herbs, homeopathy, physical medicine, and nutrition when
properly utilized, can facilitate the self-healing process within
the body. Students will gain a confidant understanding of the
science and art of practicing naturopathic medicine, learn how to
address underlying root-causes of illness while recognizing,
developing and integrating their individual healing talents.

PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE 519E
Fundamentals of Ayurvedic Medicine
This course covers the basic concepts of Ayurvedic Medicine, the
natural science of body-mind healing. Ayurvedic body-type,
balanced and unbalanced state, Ayurvedic life-style, Ayurvedic
cleansing (panchakarma) customizing the health plan to suit the
unique body constitution and commonly used Ayurvedic herbs.

PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE 521
Introduction to Natural Therapeutics.
Nature acts powerfully through healing mechanisms in the body
and mind to maintain and restore health. Students will
receive a more in-depth utilization of naturopathic methods and
medicinal substances which work in harmony with the human system,
thus facilitating long-lasting health and recovery. In
addition to employing various natural medicines, students will gain
an important perspective of the vital force and its role in the
healing process, when used in conjunction with naturopathic
principles.

PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE 811
Practice Management I.
Students are taught the current procedural practices for the
operation of a private practice. In addition, the practical aspects
of operating a practice as a small business are discussed. Students
are encouraged to begin thinking about their personal career path
in naturopathic medicine. Prerequisites: CS611, CS622.

PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICE 821
Medical Jurisprudence and Ethics.
This course covers the basics of law as it applies to medical
practice. Informed consent, confidentiality and professional
liability are discussed in detail. Naturopathic licensing laws in
various jurisdictions are contrasted and compared along with an in
depth review of the practice act in Connecticut. Prerequisite:
PS712.

Practice Management II.
This course introduces the student to the business procedures
and practice used in the successful operating of a business.
