History of UB College of Chiropractic

The nation's first university-based college of chiropractic, the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic (UBCC) was established in 1990 following licensure by the State of Connecticut of the University's doctor of chiropractic degree program. The University of Bridgeport was chosen as the site for the college because of its long history of support for chiropractic education. It was one of the first educational institutions to create a pre-chiropractic undergraduate program and its master's degree program in nutrition had long attracted a large number of practicing chiropractors.

In 1991, renovations, including creation of a human anatomy dissection laboratory, were completed on the College's current facilities, in time to welcome the inaugural class of sixteen students. A second class of twelve students was added in Spring, 1992.

In 1993, UBCC was accredited by the Connecticut Department of Higher Education and in 1994 by the Council on Chiropractic Education. In December, 1994, UBCC graduated its inaugural class of ten students. In August , 1994 the College's program converted to a traditional semester based academic calender. To date the College has graduated over 450 doctors of chiropractic and continues to provide a progressive and academic challenging curriculum.
