Instructions
- Please be sure to fill out all parts of the Online Application. Optional information is labeled as such.
- When you have completed each page of the application, click "Submit" or "Next" and you will be taken to the following page.
- Note: International Students should only fill out the Application for International Students. There is no need to fill out any other application.
Carefully read the instructions below before proceeding to Part 1 of the Online Application
Important: When filling out Part 1 of the Online Application, International students residing in the U.S. must provide a permanent address in their native country.
- The University is on rolling admissions, admitting students throughout the year. However, International students should apply no later than July 1 for the Fall (September) semester and no later than November 1 for the Spring (January) semester.
- Students with a minimal knowledge of English who plan to attend the University of Bridgeport's English Language Institute (ELI), should begin the application process no later than one year before they expect to begin their university studies.
- Applications will be reviewed by the Admissions Office when all application materials have been received. Please expect 4-5 weeks for total processing time. Some applications may require extra processing time if certain necessary academic or financial documents are missing. You will be notified by mail as to whether or not you have been granted admission.
- If you are admitted and have submitted the appropriate financial documentation, the university will issue the Certificate of Admissions and the "I-20 Certificate of Eligibility" or, in some cases, the DS-2019.
- To apply for the F-1 student visa (or J-1 exchange-visitor visa), you must present your Certificate of Admissions and your I-20 or (DS-2019), along with your academic records and financial documents indicating proof of adequate funding, to the nearest U.S. Consular office/American Embassy in your home country.
CHECK LIST FOR INTERNATIONAL UNDERGRADUTE STUDENTS (FIRST YEAR AND TRANSFER STUDENTS)
- Submit the Online Application for International Undergraduate Students.
- Submit the Application Fee of $35.00 by check or money order made payable to the University of Bridgeport. DO NOT SEND CASH. Mail the Application Fee to the address indicated below.
- Submit OFFICIAL copies of ORIGINAL secondary school and all post-secondary school (university/college) records. This includes mark sheets, academic transcripts, examination result, diplomas, and degree certificates.
- A word-for-word English translation in the same format as the document is required if the original is not in English.
- Submit course descriptions or syllabi for all post-secondary academic work attempted so that it may be evaluated for possible transfer of credits.
- Complete and submit the Financial Statement for International Students with original bank statement from the sponsor showing adequate funds. The bank statement must be of recent date of issue, not more than 6 months old, and it must be in the same name as the sponsor.
- All non-native English language speakers must demonstrate English language competency by providing a TOEFL score of 500 (PBT) or 173 (CBT). However, students with no or insufficient TOEFL may still apply. If you don't demonstrate English language competency prior to registration, you will be given the University English Language Assessment Battery (ELAB) test upon arrival. If you pass at a satisfactory level, you may begin classes. If you do not pass at a satisfactory level, you will be required to attend the University's English Language Institute (ELI) until proficiency is reached. ELAB passing grade for undergraduate students is 65.
- All applicants should fill out and return to the Office of Admissions the Financial Statement for International Students(FSIS). To download the FSIS form, click here.
