LEADERSHIP

Sets up Masters Degree Program TESOL for Taiwanese and Connecticut graduate students. Developing programs for South Korea, mainland China and Japan. Employs faculty and provides follow-thru activities for graduate Taiwanese students for year-round and summer programs.

District Supervisor of Foreign Language & Social Studies.

Japanese Language in Early Grades Attaining Communication Yookoso), Norwalk Public Schools, Norwalk,  CT.

Norwalk Board of Education, Norwalk, Connecticut. Served 12 elementary, 4 middle and 3 high schools with a district population of 10,000 children in a multi-cultural urban setting.

LEADERSHIP

Supervised, evaluated and directed personnel assignments; planned annual budgets and allocated resources in field of foreign languages and social studies; served in a supervisory role of reading, vocational education, adult education and bilingual-migratory-English as a second language programs; served a principal of grade 9 for instituting building assessment; set up capital budget improvements; wrote federal grants for entitlement purposes, leading to awards of over $2,000,000.00; marketed enrichment courses for adult totaling $75,000; formulated Perkins Grant for vocational, ESL and special education funding; developed desegregation/instructional plan for Quad Towns (Norwalk, Wilton, Weston, Westport); initiated, developed and implemented Japanese interdisciplinary program for State grant applied to middle schools; directed annual Japanese Cultural Fair for fundraising event.

GRANT INNOVATION

Conceived the notion of Center for Japanese Study Abroad with the 12 surrounding communities and focused on thematic approach/interdisciplinary vis-ƒ²-vis Japan area studies; Chaired Foreign Language IMMERSION DAYS for Quad Towns (pupils) and COLT Board (teachers); Instituted French connection with Senegal via French Embassy; set up 2-way exchange program with Vigo, Spain.

TRAINING

Sponsored, facilitated and developed staff workshops, thus releasing the creative energies of staff by encouraging new ideas and suggestions for improvement; set up regional seminars for selecting Rockefeller Summer Fellowships under Collaborative Quality Circle of Connecticut; implemented CT. State regional workshops for multiculturalism, K-12; connected staff with multicultural strategies in curriculum revision.

CURRICULUM

Directed 2 guides for foreign languages, 5 for early childhood bilingual materials, 1 for social studies and 1 for adult vocational education; formulated developmental goals for K-12 programs; maintained a systematic staff development plan for city-wide meetings in Latin, French, Spanish, Greek, Italian, German, Japanese; served on state standards: social studies and foreign languages; published Center for Japanese Study Abroad, Phi Delta Kappa, Bloomington, Indiana, 1995.

COMMUNICATING

Maintained close relationships with parents and community by assuming responsibility for interpreting programs to the public, enlisting their support; work as Chairperson of School-College committee, director of public relations, CT. Council of Language Teachers (COLT); established network for National Foreign Language Celebrations on local level; developed after-school FLES program based on parent/community assessment in French, Spanish, German and Japanese; set up interdisciplinary collaborative between social studies and language arts on the secondary level.

PROBLEM SOLVING

Participated in developing goals, strategies and ongoing reviews vis-ƒ²-vis energy contests sponsored by Cooperant Mutual Life Insurance, Montreal, Canada; formulated ¡§Help Education and Industry Gain High Technology¡¨ between high school/community college and CT. State Department of Education. State Evaluation Project, Adult Education; implemented Junior Achievement program across the curriculum, K-12.

MOTIVATION

As promoter, provided for professional growth on the part of staff in obtaining grant awards; as planner and executor, instituted Global Education state-wide conferences in New York and CT.: as sponsor, initiate Academic Alliances, School/College Faculty Collaborative in Fairfield County; as coordinator, facilitated Humanities Study Group under Institute of Teaching and learning; as facilitator, incorporated Russian exchange program with technology; initiated Chinese language within the social studies unit for enrichment; ignited staff to join interdistrict World Forum symposium including pupil representations.
