Why Study Education at UB?

Chief among the reasons to study education at the University of Bridgeport is quality. Every course in the Teacher Preparation Program, the Advanced Studies (Sixth Year) Degree Program and the Doctoral Program is taught by a full time Professor or by a practicing educator who has an advanced degree in the subject that s(he) is assigned to teach. Faculty experienced in the international community, public school classrooms, senior administrative positions, and the policy arena distinguish the Education Division; they are leaders in their respective fields.

The members of the faculty are committed to their area of expertise, their profession and their students. The faculty at the University of Bridgeport is responsible for the development and delivery of a course of study that is consistent with prevailing standards (the program is fully accredited) that blends the theoretical with the practical and that will position students for successful careers in education. Whether the objective is to become a candidate for the initial Educator Certificate, pursue a program of professional growth and renewal or to prepare for administrative and leadership roles you will find that the Division of Education at the University of Bridgeport is prepared to help you succeed.

Although quality is primary among the reasons that pride is taken in the programs offered by the School of Education and Human Resources it is not the only reason. Convenience and affordability are considered hallmarks of our programs. We focus on the adult learner. Our students are all adults who know where they are headed and ask only that we point the way. For that reason we offer our programs in a format that appeals to mature men and women, that is easily accessed and that gets students to their objective as quickly as possible. And we do it without sacrificing quality.

Our Intern Program affords students an opportunity to earn a graduate degree tuition free even as they benefit by experiencing a school culture for one full year. The Intermediate Administrator or Supervisor candidate can assume responsibility as a department chair or school administrator in as few as three semesters of study. A new Master of Science in Instructional Technology Program (currently being reviewed for state approval) will be delivered almost entirely on line. Through the ModMAP program practicing teachers and administrators can design their own unique course of study and professional growth. The Doctoral Program addresses the needs of the experienced manager or supervisor who seeks to advance to senior levels of management in private and public sector enterprises or higher education.

Knowing that our students come from all around the tri-state area we offer many of our programs at three locations and/or on-line. The main campus is in Bridgeport and borders beautiful Seaside Park. The Stamford facility is fully equipped and is supported by a complete staff. The Waterbury Graduate Center is our newest and fastest growing location.
