Welcome!

Welcome to the opportunity to improve your career potential.
Welcome to UB, one of the best kept secrets on the Continental U.S.A., until now!

Special Program for Special Needs — the UB MBA-3 (Pre-MBA) Program

There are few colleges or universities in the U.S. that help students enter graduate school with 3-year bachelor’s degrees or 2-year bachelor’s degrees plus 1-year master’s degrees. The University of Bridgeport is a leader in this effort.

Whether you are just finishing a 3-year bachelor’s degree* or an experienced professional with the desire to continue your education, this program may be for you.

*Different countries have different educational systems. Therefore this program accepts qualified applicants who have, for example, 12+3B (India) and 12+2B+1M (Pakistan) bachelor's and master's degrees.

Helpful advice: If you have a 2-year bachelor's degree and looking to convert it to the minimum requirements for this program, you must first:
a) either complete a U.S. or equivalent bachelor’s degree; or
b) complete a U.S. associates degree that fulfills the liberal arts requirement of a U.S. bachelor’s degree. A second bachelor’s degree in a specialty does not meet this requirement.

Program Particulars

The MBA-3 program is offered for full-time or part-time study in the On-Campus program only. Subject to the same waiver criteria as all other MBA program applicants, MBA-3 students from accredited business colleges complete core course requirements by taking up to 30 semester hours of approved undergraduate study -- up to 10 courses. MBA-3 students with bachelors degrees in non-business fields are usually required to complete all 30 credits. These 30 semester hours of core subjests can be compared to 24 semester hours of core subject study for MBA (MBA-4) students who take up to 8 core courses.

See Program Comparison Chart

Upon satisfactory completion of core course requirements MBA-3 students are automatically matriculated into the MBA Program and go on to complete the remaining 30 credits of MBA advanced study in either the On-Campus or Weekend programs, depending on qualifications and choices.

Application Requirements (summarized below)

The GMAT is required when there is no other way for us to evaluate your ability to do graduate level work. The GMAT is waived for students who present business school related transcripts that show an overall QPA (GPA) of 3.3 (Honors, First Class). The GMAT is waived for those with 3 or more years of professional experience upon presentation of an acceptable resume. A GMAT score is required of applicants with less than 3 years of full-time professional business experience. Other applicants with business related undergraduate degrees with QPA’s of less than 3.3, and those who are graduates of degree programs other than business are required to take the GMAT. GRE scores are not accepted.

University of Bridgeport's GMAT program code is JPM - KP - 7I.  Our former ETS DI code is 39I4.

For F-1 International applicants a minimum score of 550 (paper) or 213 (computer) on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) is required. Applicants may also present an acceptable substitute.

Applicants who are accepted but who score less than TOEFL 550 will be required to take an equivalency test upon arrival at UB.  Those that do not pass the equivalency test will be required to take English until reaching equivalency of TOEFL 550.  Depending on proficiency in English, students taking English to improve their skills may or may not be allowed to take MBA courses until sufficient skills have been reached.

An International applicant who has graduated from a U.S. college (associate's degree) is waived from the TOEFL requirement.

Applications should be submitted to the office of graduate admissions either by mail or on-line. If you will be applying for admission from outside the continental U.S. and requesting F-1 status you should try to apply by June 1 for the fall, and November 1 for the spring semester. This is to allow for postal time in both directions and visa approvals. If you will be applying from within the continental U.S., or emailing all documents at once, about July 1 would be okay for the fall, and December 1 for the spring. If you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident we will try to process your application within 30 days of the start date if you send all documents at the same time.

A personal statement of the student’s reasons and purposes for pursuing an MBA is required, along with two letters of recommendation.

Summary of Application Requirements

a)  Application
b)  All college level transcripts (international students send copies, bring originals)
c)  Personal Statement (less than one page is preferred)
d)  Letters of recommendation (2)
e)  GMAT, professional resume or other waiver material
f)  TOEFL or substitute (for F-1 International students)
g)  Application fee if you are not already a UB student or graduate

If you still have questions about application procedures please go the graduate FAQ's and read Application Requirements and Procedures.

All applicants are required to show evidence of and possess useful skills in common computer word-processing and spreadsheet programs, communication by email and the ability to do research using any web browser. In the absence of demonstrable computer skills, CAIS 191, Introduction to Computers, is a prerequisite to the MBA program.

Your ability to communicate effectively in a business setting — to write and speak well -- will have a great influence on your advancement and income potential. Therefore all applicants are expected to have an appropriate level of writing and speaking skills in English. F-1 applicants who score less than TOEFL 600, and students with English that needs improvement, will be required to take and pass a prerequisite course in Business English during their first year of study.

Waivers: Students with recent prior study (within the past five years) of core subjects at an accredited business college may be eligible for waiver and/or exemption from core courses. Waiver of any course based on undergraduate or graduate study requires at least three semester hours of study with a minimum of a ‘B’ grade as measured in the U.S. grading system. For students from countries that use the Mark System this is equivalent to 55/100 Marks*. A student will also be considered for a waiver for successful completion of a competency examination if the student is eligible to take it and if it’s available in the subject. (Credit-by-examination program (CLEP®) exams are also accepted.) Students will be asked questions about the subjects being considered for waiver to ensure the student has current familiarity with the material.  Students granted core course waivers may proceed directly to take advanced courses in the discipline in which they received waivers.

*Where 55 is about a grade of ‘B’ or 80% in this system for a (usually) combined 2-subject course that represents a teaching time duration of 100 (8-credits) of which about 4-credits can be attributed to the subject matter. India and Pakistan are among the countries that use this system.

MBA Advanced Course Requirements
Since you would complete the MBA in either the On-Campus or Weekend Program, please see the advanced courses offered in those programs.
