Filling the Need

Are you looking for an MBA Program that offers courses on your days off?

We live in a busy world. Many professionals who would like to continue their education have positions that require that they start early and work long into the evening. So what time do you really have left to continue your education?  Perhaps you should consider our weekend EMBA program in Stamford, Connecticut, just 38 miles from midtown Manhattan, New York City.  Located off Hope Street, in Riverbend Park, just behind the Metro-North Springdale Train Station, our Stamford Campus is an easy commute from both I-95 and the Merritt Parkway, especially on the weekend. Given that this program is for experienced professionals the GMAT is not required. Please read on.

Facts: What an MBA can do for you

Surveys show that with an MBA you stand to earn about $400,000 more over your lifetime than does someone who has just a bachelor's degree. The average income for a recent MBA graduate is $56,000; this is higher than most other professions. Estimates are that you will have 5 occupations - positions in 5 different companies doing different things with your knowledge. An MBA expands your ability to analyze and solve problems in different types of businesses. Your ability to communicate effectively in a business setting - to write and speak well -- will have a great influence on your different occupations. An MBA helps you to develop better communications skills, and those skills will improve your promotional potential and ability to enjoy your career.

Our On-Campus MBA graduates with no previous experience receive job offers with incomes ranging from $40,000 to $70,000/year. Our experienced students who already hold positions with incomes from $40,000 to $200,000/year usually receive promotions and or salary increases during or shortly after they finish their programs.

How is an EMBA different from an MBA?

An EMBA is an MBA that has been modified for experienced professionals. With experienced professionals’ professors can examine more complex issues and case studies, and integrate student knowledge and experiences into the curriculum to make the education more meaningful. When this is done students learn faster and therefore get quicker value from their MBA education. An EMBA is a special way to earn an MBA.

However, recognizing that EMBA could mean a different type or education to a different culture, the student accepted to this program may request the transcript and diploma be recorded as MBA or EMBA.

Welcome to the Opportunity to Improve your Career Potential

Welcome to the opportunity to earn an outstanding Internationally recognized MBA in General Administration with the option to earn a concentration by taking a few additional summer courses.  The areas for concentration in the weekend program are Accounting, Finance, Global Marketing, Management and Operations, Computer Applications and Information Systems (CAIS).

Due to the inclusion of 2 advanced Finance courses in the weekend program, an optional Concentration in Finance requires only 2 additional courses; all other optional concentrations require 3 additional courses.   Students may earn as many concentrations as they like, and additional concentrations are available through the MBA On-Campus Program.

The EMBA curriculum is designed to recognize substantial diversity in preparation and experience for students entering MBA study, as well as different goals and expectations of students after graduation.  Therefore applicants from all undergraduate and graduate majors and professions are accepted with no previous education or experience in business.

We believe UB's Executive MBA program is unique in two regards: 1) It has students from many ethnic and cultural backgrounds that bring a variety of perspectives to this globally intensive program. 2) It admits a few very bright, yet less experienced, domestic and international students (generally on Internships) into each course that will usually challenge your preconceptions of what should or should not be done in any given situation.

We also have a "special student" option for some applicants who did not do well in their undergraduate studies but have since become more serious about education after several years in the workplace. As a special student you will demonstrate your ability to do graduate level work by completing the first 3 core courses in our program with grades of ‘B’ or higher.  Once this has been done we will transfer you and your grades to the MBA Program.

Program Delivery

Designed primarily for working professionals the weekend EMBA program is block scheduled within the prescribed program on a committed schedule so students can plan their studies around their professional responsibilities and family obligations well in advance.  Because of the unique modular concept of the weekend program students may begin the program at the beginning of any two-month interval.  However, students who begin in September will enjoy being part of the primary cohort.

Special program variations are also allowed if weekend students prefer to take courses from both the Weekend and On-Campus Programs.  And, excepting F-1 International students, all students may take as few courses as they would like at any given time.

At this time classes are taught at our Stamford, CT, campus on alternating weekends, September through June.

Program Particulars

The Executive MBA Weekend Program requires 30 to 54 semester hours of study depending on the student's academic background and level of academic achievement. Students with a recent four-year bachelor's degree and good academic average from an accredited business college may be able to complete the program with 30 semester hours of advanced study - requiring 9 to 12 months to complete. Students with a bachelor's degree in a non-business field may require up to 24 credits of business core courses as foundation for the degree -- requiring an additional 9 to 12 months to complete. For early completion waiver of core requirements will be considered upon presentation of transcripts that show successful completion of core-equivalent courses with grades of ‘B’ or better as measured in the U.S. grading system.

Application Requirements (summarized below)

The GMAT is not required. But to be accepted to the EMBA Program applicants should have a minimum of 6 years of full-time business or professional experience as evidenced by an acceptable resume.  Exception to this requirement will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Applications can be submitted to the office of graduate admissions either by mail or on-line. If you will be applying for admission from outside the continental U.S. and requesting F-1 status you should try to apply by June 1 for the fall, and November 1 for the spring semester. This is to allow for postal time in both directions and visa approvals. If you will be applying from within the continental U.S., or emailing all documents at once, about July 1 would be okay for the fall, and December 1 for the spring. If you are a U.S. citizen or permanent resident we will try to process your application within 30 days of the start date if you send all documents at the same time.

A personal statement of the student's reasons and purposes for pursuing an MBA is required, along with two letters of recommendation.

All applicants are required to show evidence of and possess useful skills in common computer word-processing and spreadsheet programs, communication by email and the ability to do research using any web browser. In the absence of demonstrable computer skills, CAIS 191, Introduction to Computers, is a prerequisite to the EMBA program.

Impressing upon you the point made earlier about advancement and income potential, all applicants are also expected to have an appropriate level of writing and speaking skills in English.  F-1 applicants who score less than TOEFL 600, and students with English that needs improvement, will be required to take and pass a prerequisite course in Business English during their first year of study.

Summary of Application Requirements

a)  Application (with application fee)
b)  All college level transcripts (F-1 students send copies, bring originals)
c)  Personal Statement (less than one page is okay)
d)  Letters of recommendation (2)

Waivers: Students with recent prior study (within the past five years) of core subjects at an accredited business college may be eligible for waiver and/or exemption from core courses. Waiver of any course based on undergraduate or graduate study requires at least three semester hours of study with a minimum of a ‘B’ grade as measured in the U.S. grading system. For students from countries that use the Mark System this is equivalent to 55/100 Marks*. A student will also be considered for a waiver for successful completion of a competency examination if the student is eligible to take it and if it’s available in the subject. (Credit-by-examination program (CLEP®) exams are also accepted.) Students will be asked questions about the subjects being considered for waiver to ensure the student has current familiarity with the material.  Students granted core course waivers may proceed directly to take advanced courses in the discipline in which they received waivers.

*Where 55 is about a grade of ‘B’ or 80% in this system for a (usually) combined 2-subject course that represents a teaching time duration of 100 (8-credits) of which about 4-credits can be attributed to the subject matter. India and Pakistan are among the countries that use this system.

EMBA Advanced Courses
All 10 advanced Courses are 3 semester hours of credit each -- a total of 30 credits.  A maximum of 6 Credits may be transferred from previous related graduate course work.
