Director of Institutional Grants
Reporting to the Executive Director of University Relations, the Director of Institutional Grants is responsible for raising funds from private foundations, corporate grant programs and state and federal agencies to support University needs and priority projects.
The director is dedicated to providing quality service, both internally and externally, to a broad variety of constituencies. S/he exhibits the highest professional standards and ethical principles and is committed to the University’s mission.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify, cultivate and solicit funds from corporate, foundation and government funding sources.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with potential funders.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with local, state and federal elected officials in coordination with the Executive Director.
- Work with Congressional offices to secure support letters for federal grant applications.
- Alert administration and staff of funding opportunities.
- Write and submit proposals that are tailored appropriately to the grantor’s requirements.
- Write and submit federal earmark requests for funding; work with Congressional offices to insure timely and accurate earmark submissions.
- Meet all submission deadlines.
- Maintain stewardship of current grantors. Ensure post-award grants’ management with the project director, accounting department and grantor.
- Ensure accurate documentation and maintenance of department files on foundation and corporate giving.
- Maintain files of award documents.
- Create and execute an annual strategic plan for grant seeking.
- Prepare reports as requested by the Executive Director.
- Work with the Executive Director and Director of Public Information and Media Relations to maximize public relation opportunities associated with successful grants.
- Establish and maintain registration for private grant submissions, as required by the funder.
- Co-ordinate efforts with the Office of Sponsored Research.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree with at least three year’s grant writing experience, preferably in a university setting
- Demonstrated track record of success in developing winning proposals
- Strong enthusiastic interpersonal and skills; able to effectively communicate in person and in writing
- Able to interact effectively with multiple constituencies
- Strong organizational skills that include effective management of multiple projects and prioritization of tasks
- Exceptional work ethic and the ability to perform job duties with speed, attention to detail, accuracy and without immediate and constant supervision
- Maintain confidentiality with sensitive and critical data and information
- Able to be flexible and to work effectively as both a leader and a team member
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite
