Now the NCAA has crowned University of Bridgeport goalkeeper Julia Hansson as the nation’s top Division II keeper in goals against average.

Hansson, a sophomore from Tocksfors, Sweden, averaged 0.271 goals against average.  Her save percentage for the season was 0.955.

As a team, the Bridgeport women's soccer squad finished the fall 2011 season with a 16-0-2 record was ranked number one in the nation for six weeks during the regular season, finished number one in the country in goals against average (0.271), save percentage (0.955) and winning percentage at 0.944.

“The recognition by NCAA is a true testament of not only Julia's but the whole team's accomplishment over the course of the season. To allow only five goals in 18 games is remarkable. Though it may be an individual award, it would not have been possible without the defensive commitment of the rest of the players,” said head coach Magnus Nilerud. “A good goalkeeper in the women’s game is the nuts and bolts of a good team, and to have someone of Julia's caliber puts us in a great position to challenge for title every year.”
