Sheila Pimentel, a University of Bridgeport sophomore majoring in International Political Economy and Diplomacy at the University's International College, has been named a William Jefferson Clinton Scholar.

As a recipient of the award, Pimentel receives a full scholarship to study Arabic and Arabic culture at American University of Dubai this summer.

The William Jefferson Clinton Scholars program was established by the Clinton Presidential Foundation to provide to students from U.S. colleges and universities opportunities to expand their educational and cultural horizons by studying in the Arab world.

Pimentel’s award is the latest of several prestigious achievements by students from the International College:  Most recently, junior Rebecca Ward won a U.S. Department of State Critical Languages Scholarship in March. Like Pimentel, Ward will travel to the Middle East this summer to study Arabic.

Pimentel also is the third student from UB since 2006 to win a Clinton Scholarship.
