UB names library learning center in honor of David and Eunice Bigelow
Wahlstrom Library is located at the center of the UB campus, at 126 Park Avenue, Bridgeport, and in 2009 was transformed into a 21st-century hub of information and learning. The David and Eunice Bigelow Discovery Pavilion’s circular sound-proof glass meeting area is used by faculty, students, and visiting scholars for academic conferences, Webinars, and other educational events.
Said University President Neil Albert Salonen: “The David and Eunice Bigelow Discovery Pavilion provides a forum for the exchange of ideas so critical in fostering academic inquiry and discovery. I cannot think of a better way to honor their dedication to higher education and to the community. Their generosity has made the dream of a higher education a reality for so many deserving students.”
David C. Bigelow’s mother Ruth Campbell Bigelow founded Bigelow Tea, located in Fairfield, CT, in 1945.
The David and Eunice Bigelow Foundation has for many years provided eight scholarships annually to UB for students from Bridgeport and the surrounding area who have superlative academic records and demonstrate financial need.
University junior Kali Mason, of Monroe, CT, received a Bigelow Scholarship in September 2009, soon after her father lost his job. “It helped in a great time of need,” said Mason, an honors student in Arts and Sciences.
