AmeriCorpsThe University of Bridgeport has teamed up with the AmeriCorps Student Leaders in Service program, providing the opportunity for three undergraduates this year to join AmeriCorps’ national network of young people who give their time, talent, and energy to thousands of non-profit and community organizations across the United States.

In exchange, student leaders who donate 300 hours of service within the course of a year qualify to receive AmeriCorps Education Awards of $1,175, which may be used to help pay for college costs, including qualified student loans.

The program is held at 40 college campuses.

The University joined the highly regarded program because it was a good fit with existing campaigns on campus, said UB AmeriCorps VISTA Community Service Coordinator Jennifer Turner.

“UB students have always been active in the community. They arrive on campus and find ways to make a positive difference, so it’s a natural fit for us to participate,” said Turner.

Students who want to be considered as AmeriCorps Student Leaders should contact Jenniftu@bridgeport.edu or 203-576-4272. Applications are due Friday, September 9. Winners will be announced on September 23.
