UB challenge: 500 volunteers needed for “40 Days of Peace” campaign
University of Bridgeport (UB) today invited its students and staff to donate their time and volunteer on campus or in the community by Saturday, February 24.
The invitation is part of the “40 Days of Peace” campaign that kicked off on January 16, when UB and several local agencies co-hosted local Day of Service activities throughout Fairfield County. Day of Service is a national call to volunteer in celebration of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
“Day of Service has been such a great way for the UB community to help out at area food banks, libraries, and other nonprofits, so this year as part of our grant initiative we are continuing that service through February 24,” said Colleen Powers, director of campus activities.
The goal: recruit 500 volunteers to do some form of volunteering by the February deadline. There are no limits on giving back, and students and staff can pitch in however they wishâ tutoring a child, sorting canned goods at a food bank, visiting with or shopping for a senior citizen, even playing live music for others to enjoy at a local community center.
“Even an hour of giving back makes a massive difference,” said Powers.
