Painting with Words, the 2012 community poetry slam featuring original works by students from Bridgeport public schools, will be held Tuesday, April 24, at the University of Bridgeport.

The free event is open to the public and to any poet who wants to read or recite an original work.

It begins at 6 p.m. at the John J. Cox Student Center, 244 University Avenue, Bridgeport.

“We really hope that the community comes out to support our students. Their work is incredibly diverse: we have free verse, tank poems, haiku, epitaphs—you name it—and they really do paint with words,” said Bridgeport teacher Ron Rapice, who is organizing the poetry slam.

Poets do not need to pre-register to participate in the event.
