UB College of Naturopathic Medicine (UBCNM) students won $7,500 and a gleaming trophy at the ZRT Cup CompetitionTeam members Kate Miyagi, Kim Sanders, Lisa Laughlin, and Alix Louden, who were coached by professor Frank LaRosa, bested teams from naturopathic schools across the country during competition on August 17-20.

The team advanced in the grueling, multiday elimination rounds by successfully answering more than 400 questions covering the medical and biological sciences that are part of the naturopathic curriculum.

The competition is sponsored by ZRT Laboratory.

“They certainly did us proud!” said UBCNM Associate Dean Dr. Elizabeth Pimentel. “Their hard world paid off, as was evident in their rapid responses and confidence under pressure.”

This is the second consecutive year that the team has won the ZRT Cup and prize money. Students choose how to spend their winnings. Last year the team donated a portion of their prize to the Health Health Sciences Development Fund to help refurbish the Health Sciences student lounge in Eleanor Dana Hall.
