“A History of Connecticut Wine” by UB professors Eric Lehman and Amy Nawrocki takes readers on fascinating tour of Nutmeg State vineyards

A History of Connecticut WineThose with a fondness for the grape will do well to pick up A History of Connecticut Wine, the latest book from Eric D. Lehman and Amy Nawrocki, professors at University of Bridgeport who have written extensively about the Nutmeg State.

The authors also make appearances and sign copies of their book at Connecticut vineyards this spring and summer.

Published this month by The History Press, Connecticut Wine does brisk work of dispelling popular myths about winemaking. Many believe, for example, that New England is an inhospitable place to grow grapes. But wine has been crafted in the state since colonialists first discovered wild grapes on their land. Varieties like pinot gris, chardonnay, cabernet franc, and st. croix thrive in the state, and have inspired many fine local labels.

Lehman and Nawrocki—a husband-and-wife team who teach English at UB—introduce readers to the vintners, owners, craftspeople, and tasters who are driving the success of this blossoming industry.

“We hope to inspire everyone to travel the state and discover our amazing vineyards and wineries,” says Professor Nawrocki.

The authors will sign copies of A History of Connecticut Wine at the following dates and venues:

  • Saturday and Sunday, May 14-15, all day, Barrel Festival at the Hopkins Vineyards, New Preston, CT
  • Saturday and Sunday, June 25-26, all day, Sunset Meadows Winery, Goshen, CT
