Dr. Max Costa, cancer expert from NYU, next speaker at UB Biology Lecture Series on April 28

Dr. Max Costa, associate director of New York University Cancer Institute and a noted expert in the field of environmental medicine, will discuss the effect of metals on cancer at the University of Bridgeport Biology Lecture Series on Thursday, April 28.

His lecture, “Metals, Epigenetics, and Cancer,” begins at 12:20 p.m., room 116, Engineering Technology Building, 221 University Avenue.  It is open to the public.

Dr. Costa is chairman of the Departments of Environmental Medicine and Pharmacology at NYU and the associate director of the NYU Cancer Institute.

An expert on Hexavalent Chromium and other heavy metals, he researches the adverse effects of chemical and physical agents in the environment have on human health.  He has appeared as an expert at U.S. Senate policy hearings.

“We look forward to Dr. Costa’s lecture with great anticipation. He is highly regarded in the environmental sciences field, and his remarks should be of great interest,” said Spiros Katsifis, chairman of the UB biology department.
