Concepts in Sharp Focus: Works by artist Barbara Morse, on view at The Gallery at the University of Bridgeport from January 19 to February 29
Illustrations by Barbara Morse, whose graphite images of everyday objects are rendered in stunning realism and playful whimsy, will be on view at The Gallery at the University of Bridgeport from January 19 through February 29.
The Gallery is located in the Arnold Bernhard Center, 84 Iranistan Avenue. It is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday to Friday and from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The exhibition, called Concepts in Focus, is free.
Morse’s illustrations, completed in graphite and sometimes highlighted with acrylic wash, take everyday objectsâbaseballs, a dress, tea cups, and Chinese food take-out boxesâand arrange them in novel ways to “get the viewer’s thought process to extend beyond the natural order of things and to suggest a range of emotions from humor to hope,” says Morse.
“My interest and involvement in art has been life-long,” she continues. “I recall my first notable piece of art was done from a Draw Me matchbook cover around the age of five and shown to a neighbor. Right from the start with her praise and encouragement, I was hooked.”
