Acclaimed documentary Babies and film shorts by UB students to be featured at the University of Bridgeport International Festival, April 4 to 9

Babies, the highly acclaimed documentary of four infants growing up in four different countries, will have its local debut at the University of Bridgeport International Festival, the school’s annual weeklong celebration of culture and ideas that runs from April 4 to 9.

The 79-minute documentary by French filmmaker Thomas Balmes will be shown at 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 5 at the Arnold Bernhard Center.

It is among a weeklong series of International Festival events that are open to the public and will be held at various venues throughout campus at the following times and locations:


Tuesday April 5

Babies, the documentary, 8 p.m., Recital Hall, Arnold Bernhard Center, 84 Iranistan Avenue
Babies follows the lives of four babies as they grow from newborns to their first year as toddlers in Japan, the U.S., Namibia, and Mongolia. The documentary will be followed by On View: Visions of the World by UB students, a collection of student films about the theme of culture by University of Bridgeport students.


Wednesday April 6

“China: Friend or Foe?”, 6 p.m., duPont Tower Room, Arnold Bernhard Center, 84 Iranistan Avenue
International College professor Dr. Dave Benjamin and Pi Sigma Alpha will present this symposium followed by a reception. The symposium is underwritten by a grant from the National Political Honors Society.


Thursday April 7

International Lecture, 6 p.m., duPont Tower Room, Arnold Bernhard Center, 84 Iranistan Avenue
Lecture on the Middle East, with participation by UB Fulbright Scholars from Iraq and Algeria.


Friday April 8

International Festival Parade, 12 p.m., John J. Cox Student Center, 244 University Avenue
Parade route runs through campus.

UB World Cup, 1:15 p.m. Marina Circle
Cheer on your favorite country as UB students represent teams from various nations during this exciting soccer tournament!


Saturday April 9

International Festival and Tom’s Shoes Auction, 7 p.m. Merten’s Theatre, Arnold Bernhard Center, 84 Iranistan Avenue
A celebration of the various cultures represented at UB through dance, song and other artistic expression. The show will be followed by an auction of Tom’s Shoes, decorated by UB students. All proceeds going back to the Tom’s Shoes Foundation.
