An Evening of Theater @ Mertens Theater

Presented by University of Bridgeport’s Music & Performing Arts Program

Join us for the first University mainstage theater presentation since 1991!

The evening’s presentation will consist of a group of scenes and excerpts, and a short play, Judgment Call by Fred Stoppel, which explores how umpires look at spring training. Other excerpts include brief selections from the works of playwrights Michael McKeever, David Mamet, David Ives and William Seebring.

The cast includes Pedro Ramos, a senior majoring in International Political Economy and Diplomacy; Sung Woo Moraes and Christian Peterson, seniors in Mass Communication; Isaiah Wilson, senior, and Da’Von Lampley, junior, Music; Phebe Cormier, freshman; and Derve Jean, junior, English; Colleen Volpe, junior, Psychology; Atef Abaza, sophomore, Business Administration; Albert Thien, graduate student, Global Media & Communication; Gaelle Vincent, freshman, School of Arts & Sciences; and David Gant, graduate student in Counseling.

The evening is directed by Kate Katcher, Adjunct Professor of Theater, with technical direction by Ian McDonald, Adjunct Professor of Technical Theater. Jacquelyn Sadowsky, a December graduate of the Music program, is the stage manager.

Peter and the Wolf @ Mertens Theatre

The University of Bridgeport, Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestras, and the New England Ballet Company of Bridgeport are proud to present

Peter and the Wolf, and other repertoire!

Live music and dance will be featured during this special performance. The event will also feature Benjamin Britten’s “Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra.”

“A Life in Service”: Peace Corps Panel @ Carlson Hall, Room 214

Dance Workshop: Caribbean Dance @ Mirror Room, Arnold Bernhard Arts and Humanities Center

Join us as we kick off International Festival Week on our first continent: North America! Come learn a few moves from the islands of the Caribbean, where music and dance have evolved with influences from Africa, Latin America, and beyond. UB’s Caribbean Service Association will host this informal workshop to share their culture with you and get you moving to the beats! All skill levels are invited – no prior dancing experience necessary!

Our International Festival week now takes us to South America, which we will celebrate with this exciting event in which participants will learn some steps of Latin salsa dance from UB’s award-winning Ballroom Dancing Team! This dance style will teach you rhythm and vibrancy, and is one of the most fun styles of dance for people of all ages and skills levels to learn. Everyone is invited – no prior dancing experience necessary!

Waist Bead Workshop @ Student Center Lobby

Wednesday of our International Festival Week celebrates the continent of Africa! Our celebration begins with this special workshop hosted by the UB African Student Association. Stop by the lobby of the Student Center for a chance to make your own set of Waist Beads, which have been worn by women in Northern and Western Africa for centuries and are steeped in tradition and ceremony. Learn more about their history and meaning, and create your own personalized set of Waist Beads that can be worn over or under your clothes!

“We Are One” Photo Contest @ Great Room, John J. Cox Student Center

Join us for an international photo contest celebrating our shared human experience. International and domestic students, as well as UB faculty and staff, will be invited to submit photos illustrating our common human spirit which is shared across all countries and cultures, demonstrating that we all share much more in common than what would divide us. All students are invited to the Coffee Hour to view and vote on the photos, and enjoy some light refreshments.

International Festival Celebration @ Arnold Bernhard Arts and Humanities Center
