About Patrick Nolan ’90
President, DesignThink
Patrick has 30 years of global design experience in Industrial Design, is passionate about all things design where he is focused on creating meaningful experiences. “Meeting and working with new people is what I enjoy most day to day.”
Patrick has worked as a design leader at Black & Decker, Stanley Tools, and Newell Rubbermaid prior to founding DesignThink. He received a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design from the University of Bridgeport in 1990. He is focused on design leadership, exploring new processes and building successful teams. Patrick is currently engaged at DesignThink where he and his team deliver global brand and product solutions across a prolific range of industries which include medical devices, juvenile products, construction & tools, office products, housewares, outdoor gear, and consumer electronics.
Patrick is named on over 60 utility and design patents and has been recognized on several Industrial Design Awards. He brings his years of experience working on innovative, breakthrough products to help clients identify and translate user needs into relevant and meaningful design solutions. He is focused on creating new user experiences through an integrated design process to ensure that the users’ needs, aesthetic strategies, and performance criteria are complemented in each project.
Outside of work, Patrick is a huge Corvette nut and is currently working on the restoration of a 1968 convertible that apparently has no real end date in sight but is fun to work on. “I think having a long term project with an indefinite end offers a nice counter balance to being so deadline focused in my professional world. Not sure my family shares that same philosophy with me though”.
