Spaghetti and baseballs, a Hot Stove League
Stuper and Jeynes ticket at UB Friday night

John Stuper, the Yale baseball coach and a former World Series pitching star, will be throwing the strikes as guest speaker at a University of Bridgeport “Spaghetti and Baseball” benefit dinner Friday night.

The $25-a-plate benefit is open to the public. It will provide a campus and community introduction for UB’s new baseball coach Richard Jeynes. It will be in the Social Room of the John Cox Student Center. For tickets or more information, call (203) 576-4059.

Stupor has 165 wins in his seven seasons as Yale coach. Along the way he’s won New England and Northeast Division 1 Coach of the Year honors. He pitched with the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds in the National League in the early 1980s. He had a 32-28 record and 3.96 ERA in his four years in the majors. His most memorable appearance came in the sixth game of the 1982 World Series. The Cardinals were trailing Milwaukee three games to two. Stuper pitched St. Louis to a 13-1 complete game - a four-hit victory, tying the series. The Cards went on to win the world championship the next day.
