The University of Bridgeport welcomes its former president, Leland Miles, back to campus Tuesday, Dec. 4, for a reception and book signing on publication of his new book, “Provoking Thought: What Colleges Should Do for Students.”
UB President Neil Albert Salonen and his wife Rebecca are sponsoring the event honoring Miles, who was president from 1974 to the middle of 1987, when he retired.
Many longtime friends of Miles and the university will be on hand for the festivities. The reception will be in the gallery of the Arnold Bernhard Arts and Humanities Center, 84 Iranistan Ave., starting at 5 p.m.
Miles will give a reading from his book, published by Phoenix Publishing and available at the UB and other bookstores in the region. Miles, who is known for his storytelling, offers a humorous but serious critique of higher education. Reviewers have praised it for showing students what they should get from college, and for parents in telling them what to expect.
