Murari Raj Sharma, a vice president of the United Nations General Assembly and Nepal's permanent representative to the world body, will be the principal speaker at the United Nations Day ceremony Wednesday (Oct. 24) at the University of Bridgeport.
Students from the university's Model United Nations will participate in the salute to the U.N. It will take place at 4 p.m. in the Tower Room of the Arnold Bernhard Arts & Humanities Center. Dr. Thomas Ward, vice president for UB's international programs, is chairman. The program is open to the public.
UB's President Neil Albert Salonen will induct Ambassador Sharma as an honorary fellow in the university's New England Center for International and Regional Studies as part of the ceremony. The honor recognizes the diplomat's distinguished career in international public service.
Sharma joins the ranks of Viktor Chermomyrdin, prime minister of the Russian Federation, Julio Macchi, chairman of the Argentine Stock Exchange, and Hennadii Udovenko, foreign minister of Ukraine, as fellows of the center.
