UB Board of Trustees member Dr. Kenneth Gray and his wife Doris have honored the memory of their recently deceased daughter, Lancy, by establishing an endowed scholarship in her name at the University of Bridgeport. Dr. Gray is a professor of business and senior Fulbright Fellow at Alakhawayn University in Morocco and has served on the Board of Trustees at the university for several years. He is also associate professor for International Business at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee.

Lancy Amelie Gray was born in Kenya in 1985 and suffered a fatal car crash in Morocco in 2000. Lancy, a gifted writer who was fluent in several languages, learned at an early age how to move freely in various cultures. She attended schools in Kenya, the United States, Germany and Morocco. By the time she was 15 years old, she spoke German, English and French and had a basic knowledge of Arabic. Lancy was an accomplished cellist and played in an orchestra. She intended to study cultural anthropology and world religions.

The UB scholarship in her name, initially in the range of $500-$800, will be awarded annually to a full-time student in good academic standing, in need of financial assistance, and interested in fostering understanding between people of different cultures. Recipients must maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average. Candidates must submit a 600-word essay on the topic, 'fostering understanding between people of different cultures.'
