There will be a reception on Thursday, May 24, 2001, at 1:00 PM to celebrate the recent UB acquisition of 40 paintings by clients of the Kennedy Center. The paintings were acquired through a generous donation of $6000 to the Kennedy Center by alumnus Fred Ahlbin '34 and his wife Frances, who is a Life Trustee of the University.
The paintings are currently displayed in the Garden level of the Wahlstrom library, which is where the reception will take place.
Martin D. Schwartz, the president of the Kennedy Center, and Neil A. Salonen, president of the University, will both be present to commemorate the transfer of the paintings.
The Kennedy Center serves some 1200 individuals of all ages who suffer from physical and mental disabilities. It currently operates thirteen group residences, several businesses, a sheltered workshop and several employment programs.
In the year 2000, Martin Schwartz received an honorary doctorate degree, honoris causa, from the University in recognition of his humanitarian work.
