The University of Bridgeport will honor the life and legacy of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with service opportunities and other programs on Monday, January 21, 2019.
The school’s 14th annual Day of Service begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Arnold Bernhard Center as students, faculty, staff, and members of the community gather to help Fairfield County agencies and nonprofits. They include:

  • The Discovery Museum
  • Harborview Towers
  • Downtown Special Services District
  • Homes for the Brave
  • Hearts of Hope

“With this special day of service in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., we begin an entire season of service and outreach activities. This celebration of day-long events brings the University community together with area non-profit organizations and sparks communication for future collaboration,” said Edina Oestreicher, vice president for student affairs and dean of students.

Free lunch and transportation to service sites will be provided.

State Comptroller Kevin Lembo will address volunteers at 9 a.m.

Other 2019 MLK Day events include three workshops, held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Cox Student Center. They are:

  • LGBT + Ally Training, co-presented by UB and Triangle Community Center
  • The Freedom Writers Workshop
  • Common Ground: A Social Justice Workshop

The program is coordinated by the Office of Campus Activities and Civic Engagement, Division of Student Affairs.

Registration for Day of Service events begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Arnold Bernhard Center, 84 Iranistan Avenue, Bridgeport.
