George Blake, UB's 'Mr. Chips,' dies

university will miss Professor George Blake, 61, who died
June 5 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
Blake, who served at UB for 25 years, was the director
of the General Studies program for the past 10 years,
following a long term as the creator and director of the
Basic Studies program.
Blake will be remembered by many UB
students for his sincerity and his generosity with his
time, often advising and mentoring more than 100 students
at a time. He taught British literature, world literature,
composition and general humanities courses.
Blake had a bachelor's degree from Harvard
and a Ph.D. from New York University.
