Dr. Manyul Im, a much-respected professor of philosophy, ethics, and Asian studies, has been named the new dean of the University of Bridgeport’s School of Arts and Sciences.
His tenure begins July 15, 2014.
In his new role, Dr. Im will manage 13 departments that offer 27 undergraduate and three graduate programs.
Dr. Im most recently served as the Director of the Asian Studies at Fairfield University, where he obtained a grant from ASIA Network and the Henry Luce Foundation to offer a post-doctoral teaching fellowship in Japan studies and founded a relationship with the Korea Economic Institute. He also served as Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and taught classes in Asian philosophy.
Dr. Im serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Chinese Philosophy. He is the founding editor of Warp, Weft, and Way, an academic website for international collaboration and information about Chinese and comparative philosophy.
Dr. Im holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley, and master’s and Ph.D degrees in philosophy from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
