Become a better leader through our certificate programs
The Student Leadership Institute (SLI) at the University of Bridgeport allows students of all levels to develop self-awareness, learn strategies to improve leadership skills, and directly apply competencies to leadership work. SLI includes two certificate programs for students in order to increase both personal and organizational success.
“I have enjoyed every aspect of the Student Leadership Institute from start to finish. I was able to hone into my strengths as a leader and understand how to properly utilize my leadership traits.” – Spring 2016 participant
SLI’s Leadership Programs
Emerging Leaders is open to all students looking to learn more about their personal strengths, leadership styles, and best practices to lead themselves, as well as their clubs/organizations/teams. Through retreats, interactive workshops, and activities, students will build on six competency areas including community engagement, reasoning and thought, communication, group dynamics, personal behavior, and self-awareness and development. To complete the program, students must attend a kick-off half day retreat and at least six out of ten workshops offered throughout the semester. Workshops are offered Monday nights from 7:00-8:00 p.m. and Thursday afternoons from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Students may choose which time-slot works best for them. Emerging Leaders is offered every spring semester and is by application only.

Leadership in Action
Leadership in Action is a continuation program available to students who have previously completed Emerging Leaders. By participating in this advanced program, students will be able to apply their previous knowledge to practical leadership work including personal leadership efforts, service projects, theory based workshops, and a portfolio presentation. After completing the program, students will effectively be able to identify how and why they use certain leadership models, personal strengths, and leadership styles to successfully lead. To complete the program, students must attend 4 workshops taking place on Tuesday afternoons from 12:30-1:30 p.m. and a group service project. Leadership in Action is offered every fall semester and is by application only.
