Invest in Your Neighbor

You may not know it, but the University of Bridgeport has a significant impact in Fairfield County and the City of Bridgeport. Annually, students, employees, and visitors to UB contribute $37 million dollars to the local economy. UB is one of the largest employers in the City of Bridgeport and brings visitors and students to the area from around the globe. UB’s Clinics in the Health Sciences program treat 25,000 patients annually at no fee or reduced costs and provide much-needed services for low-income residents in Fairfield County. Our services to and in the community are valued at over $2,000,000 a year.

There are many ways UB partners with area businesses and corporations to provide educational programming for professional staff members while giving students exposure to the workplace. Monthly networking events featuring innovative businesses and entrepreneurs give our students exposure to real life examples of career paths. All of this would not be possible without the financial support of those who believe in the mission of the University.

Each person who contributes to the University helps to enhance the national reputation of UB. The University received $2.2 million in funding from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) to help power buildings on campus that could potentially be used as emergency shelters for the community. For the third consecutive year, UB’s online degree programs have been named among the top in the nation, according to the U.S. News and World Report’s “2015 Best Online Education Programs.” For the tenth year in a row, a team of MBA students from the University of Bridgeport has medaled in the Connecticut Stock Market Game in which competitors invest a hypothetical $100,000 over ten weeks and strive to out-perform both each other as well as the overall stock market, as measured by the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index. All of these milestones enhance UB’s reputation, which in turn brings attention to the wonderful things happening in the greater Bridgeport area.

As a community member, your financial commitment to UB speaks volumes. As UB evolves with offerings of  blended learning opportunities, increased online learning, and increased and creative responses to the different educational needs or our students, we will stay competitive and relevant. It is vital that those who are closest to the University invest in its progress. To learn more about UB’s economic impact, click here.
