What is a Personal Alarm Locator (PAL)?
All students are provided a Personal Alarm Locator (PAL). This device can be obtained through the security department 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The PAL allows an individual to summon help immediately in the case of an emergency within the campus boundaries. The small and easily carried device acts as a beeper, sending signals to the security office computer system when activated. Once activated, the computer screen provides the individual’s personal information, photo ID and the location from where the device was activated. The information is viewed by the dispatcher and is passed on to the patrol officers. Officers immediately respond to the call in search of the individual who activated the device. The University of Bridgeport is one of only two colleges in the country to provide this service.

Does security provide escorts for students?
Yes, the Security Department provides walking escort services for students and staff upon request by contacting extension 476-4913 from phones located throughout all buildings on the campus. If an escort is requested, a patrol officer goes to the location where the call originated and provides a walking escort to another on-campus facility. These services are normally provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Is there an Emergency Notification System?
Yes, the Emergency Notification System allows campus leaders and security professionals to send time-sensitive notifications to thousands of recipients in minutes. It is a means to provide emergency information and reassurance to students, faculty, staff, and parents via phone, text and email. You will only receive emergency notifications if your student has registered your information with the system. Please discuss this with your student and encourage him/her to register you, if they have not done so already.

Is there a shuttle service for students?
Yes, a free shuttle service is available to transport students, faculty, and staff to key locations throughout the UB campus. The free shuttle service also provides transportation to the Bridgeport train, ferry and bus stations. Pamphlets with information on shuttle service hours and locations can be picked up at the Security Department.

Where does my student get his/her ID?
The Security Department is responsible for issuing student ID cards. Student ID cards also provide access to Residential Halls for resident students, access to Marina Dining Hall and the University Library. ID cards can be obtained Monday through Friday from
8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Proof of registration is required.

Where can my student get a parking sticker for his/her car?
Students must complete a vehicle registration form and obtain parking permits from the security office. A fee is not charged for this service. A sticker serial number is provided which is placed on the passenger side rear window. The parking permit serves to identify vehicles in the event of an emergency.
