Where can my student go if he/she is sick?
The University of Bridgeport Student Health Services offers high
quality, outpatient ambulatory care for the treatment of acute illness
and injuries. Serious medical problems are referred to the local
hospital emergency room. Three part-time licensed physicians and two
full-time registered nurses staff the Center. Health Services is
located at 60 Lafayette Street, Room 119 and is open Monday through
Friday, 8:30 am-4:30 pm.
What if my student has a health emergency?
In the event of an emergency, on campus students should call their
Resident Advisor (RA), Resident Director (RD), or campus security at
576-4911. Off campus students should go to their local emergency room.

For urgent, non-emergency care after office hours, students should contact their doctor or an urgent care center.
What type of health insurance is required?
The University of Bridgeport Insurance Policy is mandatory for
full-time undergraduates, international students, and all residential
students. Students are automatically enrolled in the health insurance
plan provided by the University and are billed on their student
account. If a domestic student can show proof of comparable private
health insurance, the University insurance may be waived by submitting
a waiver form by the due date on the waiver form. For more information,

401-453-0698. All full-time undergraduate students, all students living
in campus housing, all athletes and Health Sciences majors are enrolled

What are the required immunizations?
Connecticut law requires that all college students born on or after
January 1, 1957, to submit documentation of two separate measles
vaccinations and one rubella vaccination. The first measles and rubella
vaccine must have been given on or after student’s first birthday and
after January 1, 1969. The second measles vaccine must have been given
after January 1, 1980. Health Services has the measles and rubella
vaccines and will be happy to administer them to students. Connecticut
law mandates that students who reside on-campus must provide
documentation of the meningitis vaccine. If a student is vaccinated at
Student Health Services, the cost for meningitis vaccine must be paid
by cash or check at the time of the vaccination.
A PPD
(test for Tuberculosis) is required of all new students within 6 months
of registration to the University. If the student has a history of a
positive PPD documentation of a negative
chest X- ray and a letter from their physician regarding whether
prophylactic therapy was initiated or refused is necessary.
A new law enacted by the State of Connecticut mandates that all college
students must be informed of Hepatitis B infection and its devastating
consequences. College students are at an increased risk of developing a
Hepatitis B infection. All students are strongly encouraged to be
vaccinated for Hepatitis B, which is administered in a series of three
injections over a six-month period.
