Where is the University of Bridgeport (UB) located?
The University is located on a spectacular 50-acre seashore campus in
the State of Connecticut. Located in Fairfield County, Bridgeport is
Connecticut’s largest city. It is just 45 miles northeast of Manhattan
and 150 miles southwest of Boston on Connecticut’s southern coast. The
University of Bridgeport boasts a scenic ocean side campus and is
located near Seaside and Prospect Parks, Bridgeport Beach, and downtown
Bridgeport. Also nearby is the 6,000-seat Harbor Yard Baseball Complex,
home to the Bridgeport Bluefish and the University of Bridgeport’s
Purple Knights.

How safe is the UB campus?
The University of Bridgeport is pleased to announce being recognized as
the safest residential campus in the state of Connecticut for the past
two years. The University offers a combination of security services
that include a Securitas Security Service USA
managed public safety force, escort services, and twenty-four-hour
monitored access to all residence halls. Also, each full-time student
at the University is provided a small personal alarm locator (PAL)
that allows one to signal for help instantly from anywhere on campus in
an emergency. Small and easily carried, a student summons help with the
touch of a button. The signal sends information about who the student
is and where that student is located to a central computer in the

What types of public transportation will my student have access to in Bridgeport?
The University of Bridgeport is located near the Metro North and Amtrak
train stations, the Port Jefferson Long Island Ferry, Sikorsky Airport,
the Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority and the downtown bus station.
UB also offers shuttle services on and around campus. All full-time UB
students receive a pass to ride Bridgeport’s mass transit system for
free! The Trumbull Mall and Milford Mall are the closest malls to UB
and are both served through Bridgeport’s mass transit system.
Are first-year students allowed to have cars on campus?
Yes! Parking is ample, and all students, including first-year students,
are allowed to have a vehicle on campus. All students are encouraged to
get a free UB parking permit from Campus Security once they arrive on
campus.
What is there to do in Bridgeport?
Bridgeport is known as “The Park City,” because it is home to over
1,367 acres of parkland spread out over 52 parks. It is also home to
Connecticut’s only zoo, the Beardsley Zoo. Students have access to the
arts at the Playhouse on the Green, the Greater Bridgeport Symphony
Orchestra, the Downtown Cabaret Theater, the Klein Memorial Auditorium,
and the Housatonic Museum of Art. And if they enjoy sports, just a few
blocks from campus is the Webster Bank Arena which hosts the New York
Islander’s affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers and the neighboring
Ballpark at Harbor Yard which hosts the Bridgeport Bluefish, part of
the independent Atlantic League. There are also museums, shopping
malls, movie theaters, and great dining establishments here in
Bridgeport and the surrounding Fairfield County. (link to greater
