Academic Resource Center FAQ

Does the Academic Resource Center provide textbooks?
The Center does hold a limited number of textbooks as supplied by various professors. The books may be used only onsite and with the submission of the student ID card.

My child was not accepted into a major but into the First Year Studies Program (FYSP). Does this add another year to my student’s academic career?
In most cases, beginning in the FYSP does not necessarily add a year to your student’s schooling. With judicious planning and close collaboration with the advisor, a program can be designed that will be a combination of the general education requirements and major introductory courses. However, some majors have a large number of required courses that must be taken in a specific sequence. Sometimes students must take prerequisites before they are allowed to take these courses and/or the courses are offered only in certain semesters. These factors may affect the student’s time in school.
