SATs, the acceptance letter from UB has arrived and you’re all excited!

Here are some suggestions as you prepare for life as the parent of a UB Purple Knight:
- Apply for financial assistance
The University of Bridgeport’s
Office of Student Financial Services
helps students and their families navigate and understand the financial
aid process and identify financial tools to help make a college
education affordable.
Paying for college is a partnership between your family, the
government and the University of Bridgeport. Approximately 97% of our
first time, full-time undergraduate receive financial aid. We
participate in a variety of federal, state, and private programs that
offer loans, grants, scholarships, and other awards to students who
demonstrate financial need, superior academic achievement, or other
circumstances that may impact their ability to seek an education at
University of Bridgeport.
It is very important that all paperwork required by the University of
Bridgeport is completed accurately and completely. Help your student
fill out applications and financial aid forms but don’t do it for
him/her! Also, make sure that you are aware of and adhere to all
deadlines.
- Attend a STAR (Summer Transition, Advisement and Registration) program
STAR is a 1/2 day opportunity for you and your student to come to campus and get a head start on the fall semester. At
STAR,
your student will meet with his/her academic advisor, register for
classes early and have the opportunity to meet with financial aid
counselors to finalize aid packages.
STAR sessions will be held on June 30 and July 28, 2012.

New student orientation and the start of the school year will be here
before you know it! So make sure to spend quality time together over
the summer. Remain supportive and excited about your student’s
preparations for college. Remember, whether you take a family vacation
or just hang out at home, the most important thing you can spend on
your children is time; use it wisely and you will both have memories
for a lifetime!
