UBDesign Spring 2003 ::

UB Design Moved ::

Winter-Spring semester found UBDesign moved into its new home in Bernhard Center (ABC).

Arnold Bernhard Center

Spectacular renovations by the University and by work-study students created a professional-quality environment for learning and producing exemplary design work.

Each division of the Department: Graphic Design; Illustration; Interior Design; and Industrial Design has a floor of studio space, work rooms, and classrooms, with student storage spaces available. Access is by a three-elevator bank or by stairs, and each floor features inspiring views of Long Island Sound, of the UB campus, and of Bridgeport.

Hanyang University Visits UBDesign ::

January saw eight students from Hanyang University in Korea arrive at UB to take part in a trial exchange program in design. The students had a project from local industry leader, Schick, to design a package for products targeted at the Korean market.

The real-life solutions were presented at Product ventures for future production.

The students were a very welcome and attentive group, and each division of UBDesign had special classes with them to help develop their innovative and exciting solutions. Each produced a design that would merit consideration in any design process.

The University Gallery ::

In 2002, the gallery held a series of exhibitions of alumni work and faculty work, and finished with an exciting display of student work from the Fall 2002 semester.

In February 2003, the gallery held an exhibit of local artists' work, which proved a welcome bright sight in the gray of winter.

In April 2003 the gallery will host an exhibition of industrial design works by attendees of the CT|ISDA annual conference.

UBDesign 2002 ::

UB Design Moves ::

Currently we are working hard to complete the move to the Arnold Bernhard Center (ABC), the new home of UB Design.

Arnold Bernhard Center

Several floors are being renovated and prepared for a new and successful year at UB Design.

Each division of the Department: Graphic Design; Illustration; Interior Design; and Industrial Design will each have a floor of studio space, work rooms, and classrooms, with student storage spaces available. Access is by a three-elevator bank or by stairs, and each floor features inspiring views of Long Island Sound, of the UB campus, and of Bridgeport.

The University Gallery ::

Currently on display is a selection of works from the permanent collection. We are planning a Design Faculty Show for mid September, a Design Alumni Show beginning in mid October and a student show at the end of 2002.

2001-2002 In Brief ::

The Design Department had another successful year (2001/2002).

Professor Guanwoo Yoon joined Design as an adjunct teaching in the Sophomore industrial design studio.
Korean Professors Tai Ho Kim and Sang Wook Yoo are currently visiting scholars in residence.
