The Music Program offers three distinct four-year programs leading to the Bachelor of Music degree, Music Education, Performance, and Music Business.
Music Education
The Music
Education concentration focuses on the need to develop diverse skills
marketable to a wide range of current needs in the field of music
education. We offer practical secondary instruments (Strings, recorder,
percussion, choral techniques) to increase the marketability of each
student. Our education students are often also strong performers, and
develop business awareness skills applicable to the development of
solid music programs at a variety of age groups.
Music Performance
The
Music Performance concentration of the Bachelor of Music degree is
designed to refine and develop skills essential to professional
musicians. Extensive one-on-one training with our world-class
performing faculty, and practical experience in our chamber ensembles
form the essence of the performance concentration. Large rehearsal
spaces, and concert halls are made readily available to students. It is
a distinct advantage to have continual access to actual concert halls,
as the ear develops a more accurate understanding of acoustics than it
does from the microscopic practice rooms offered by most music
schools. Students can choose from the following list of major
instruments: Bassoon, Clarinet, Composition, Conducting, Flute, French
Horn, Guitar, Harp, Oboe, Organ, Percussion, Saxophone, Sitar, String
Bass, Tabla, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Viola, Violin, Violoncello,
Voice.
Music Business
This innovative concentration
offers the same extensive one-on-one training with our world-class
performing faculty as the performance major, but includes 27 credits
from the business school. This blend positions graduates to apply to
MBA programs or Master of Music programs.
