Frequently Asked Questions:

What do I do if I receive an error that a mailbox or account does not exist, or if I receive an error that my account is suspended?

If you receive any of the above errors, please submit a case to ACTS explaining the error, your name, your UBNetID, your student ID number, and information on how to contact you (an email address and/or phone number). If you can provide a screenshot of the error, that can assist technicians in resolving the issue. Resetting your password will not resolve this issue.

What do I do if I am an alumnus and cannot log into my email account?

Try to reset your password. After following the password reset process, if you still cannot log into your account, submit a case to ACTS and we will further investigate the issue.

Can I access my account using an email program such as Outlook (via POP or IMAP)?

To configure your email program (such as Outlook or Mac Mail) to read your UBmail account:

  1. First, make sure you have a password to log into UBNet or the Portal.
  2. Then, enable IMAP in your UBmail account and set a password directly with Google for IMAP access (See below for more information).
  3. Lastly, insert the appropriate UBmail IMAP settings into your email program’s configuration screen. (If you need help, Gmail’s Help provides detailed instructions for which value goes where in your particular email program.)

  2. Enter your UBNet Username
  3. Enter your UBNet Password
  4. Enter a new password for IMAP that is different than your UBNet password and hit submit

Important Notes: Allow up to 90 minutes for your IMAP password to process. This will change your IMAP account password ONLY and will not change your UBNet password.

Once I setup my IMAP password, when do I use that password versus my UBNet password?

IMAP Passwords are needed to use an application on the phone/tablet (Gmail, Drive etc…), or phone/tablet built-in mail application (anything “not-browser”).

Your UBNet password will work with any UBMail application while you access it through a web browser (even on a mobile device).

If you are using an IMAP client application such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Apple Mail or Thunderbird, please visit Gmail’s Help for detailed instructions.

How do I move my old email into my new email?

If you are using an IMAP client application such as Outlook, Outlook Express or Thunderbird, you can move your old email into your new email box by selecting the email and “drag and dropping” it into your new email box.

If you do not use an IMAP client application such as one of those noted above, you can send an email to yourself and attach a few emails to it. The size limit for sending is 20MB, however, emailing attachments with images may result in the email size being significantly larger than the original message actself.

How can I be logged into my UBmail account and another Gmail account at the same time?

You are not permitted to be logged into more than one Google account at a time in the same Web browser unless you enable an optional feature to log into multiple accounts simultaneously. You must activate this for each of your Gmail accounts if you wish to be able to be logged into your UBmail and personal Google accounts at the same time in the same Web browser.
