Wifi Access Using UB Issued Equipment

Wifi access is available to UBNet authorized users for use with personal portable computing devices (laptops, Surface PRO, etc.).  Connecting to the University’s Wireless network is a simple straightforward process consisting of two (2) steps.

Windows 7

Step 1: Browse the available wireless networks by clicking the wireless signal bars that are by default in the bottom right corner of the screen next to the clock.

Step 2: Locate and right-mouse click on Knights-wifi, a pop up menu should appear with the option to connect.  Left mouse click on connect.

The wireless will connect and show the following in the wireless menu:

Connecting to Knights-WiFi using Non-UB Issued Equipment

First-time connection for non-UB issued laptops

These instructions are for non-UB issued laptops and devices. The first time users log in to Knights-WiFi, users will need to configure their laptops according to the steps below.  After configuration and initial login, users will not be required to enter/select network unless a change of password has occurred.

Launch the Wireless Connection Menu located in the lower right corner of the screen

Select Open Network and Sharing Center

Select the option to “Set up a new connection or network”

Select “Add”

Select “Manually create a network profile” to add Knights-WiFi.

Enter the Network name EXACTLY as shown below (knights-wifi), select the WPA2-Enterprise security type, and AES encryption type.  Then select to proceed.network name

You will receive confirmation that knights-wifi has been added.  A change to connection settings is required.  Please select.connection settings

To launch the settings for the Protected EAP, select Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP) and click Settings.

Uncheck the “Validate server certification” option by selecting the check box if it is checked already.  Then select

Uncheck the option to Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any).uncheck automatically login and password

At this point, you are now ready to login to the system. The process completed above, as well as logging in to the Network will only take place once (unless you change your password).login process complete

Enter your UBNet Username and Password.

Upon authentication, you will be connected to knights-wifi.

Windows 8.1 and Windows 10

The instructions are the same for both of these operating systems, but the interface looks slightly different.

Steps

  1. Choose the knights-wifi network from the wifi menu.

 2. In the user name field type ad\ and then your UBNETID, and type your password in the second box, then click ok.

3. You will be asked to accept the certificate by clicking connect, and then you will be connected to the wireless.
