Pre-Majors and Matriculation Requirements

As a student conditionally accepted in the Pre-Majors program, you are dual-advised by staff in the Academic Advising Center (AAC) and departmental faculty in the major of your choice during their first academic year.  You will learn specifics about your major of interest from the faculty and the AAC advisors will mentor and coach you to successfully transition into the major by the end of their first year.

Pre-Business

GPA Requirement: 2.50

Other Requirements: Earn a grade of a “C” or better in BUAD 101 and BUAD 102.

Pre-College of Public and International Affairs (International Political Economy and Development or Criminal Justice and Human Security)

GPA Requirement: 2.0

Pre-College of Public and International Affairs (Mass Communication)

GPA Requirement: 2.0

Pre-Design

GPA Requirement: 2.30

Other Requirements: 

  • All focus areas (graphic design, industrial and interior design) must earn a “C-” or better in all course work
  • The Graphic Design program requires a score of 18/30 or better during the Freshman Review. Industrial Design and Interior Design students are not scored during the Freshman Review.

Pre-Engineering (Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering)

GPA Requirement: 2.50

Other Requirements: Earn a “C” or better in both math courses (105 and 109/110) and CPSC 101

Pre-Fashion Merchandising

GPA Requirement: 2.50

Pre-General Studies

GPA Requirement: 2.50

Pre-Human Services

GPA Requirement: 2.50

Pre-Humanities

GPA Requirement: 2.30

Other Requirements: 

  • Earn a “C-” or better in ENGL 101
  • Speak with faculty before matriculation

Pre-Mathematics

GPA Requirement: 2.50

Pre-Music

GPA Requirement: 2.50

Other Requirements:

  • Earn a “C-” or better in the following courses: MUS 109, 109A, 110 and 110A and MUS 122
  • Earn a “B-” or better in APM 100 and ensembles in fall and spring semester

Pre-Psychology

GPA Requirement: 2.50

Other Requirements: Earn a “C-” or better in ENGL 101 and PSYC 103

Pre-Science (Biology)

GPA Requirement: 2.50

Other Requirements: 

  • Earn a “C” or better in BIO 101 or CHEM 103
  • Place into ENGL 101 or Math 109 before taking BIO 101 and CHEM 103

If student does not place into either English 101 or Math 109, they should not take BIO 101 or CHEM 113 until they’ve taken Biology 100 and the Bio Assessment.

Pre-Science (Health Science)

GPA Requirement: 2.75

Other Requirements: Earn a “C” or better in all coursework.

Pre-Science (Medical Lab Science)

GPA Requirement: 2.70

Other Requirements: Earn a “C” or better in all coursework.

Health Services will provide an overview of the services they offer to students.  Workshops will be around a topic related to health and wellness. Further details to come.

Three sessions are available. Each session runs from 1:20 p.m. – 2:20 p.m.:

  • Health Services 1,  Tuesday, September 26
  • Health Services 2, Wednesday, October 11
  • Health Services 3, Wednesday, Nov 30. This workshop will be about a topic related to health and wellness.
