Dr. Gibson has served as the Dean of the Ernest C. Trefz School of Business since 2012. During his tenure at the University of Bridgeport the undergraduate and MBA programs have been revised resulting in three new MBA concentrations and the implementation of a collaborative undergraduate finance program with Zhejiang University of Science & Technology in Hangzhou. He has also presented papers at two international conferences with the most recent one being the Eighth Multinational Business Symposium held at Nanjing University in June of 2014. Under his direction the Trefz School opened a new Student Entrepreneur Center in which more than 50 students from nine different schools at UB participate.

Prior to joining the University of Bridgeport, Dr. Gibson worked in both academia and business. Most recently he was the Dean of Education/Campus Dean at Stratford University in Falls Church, Virginia where he was responsible for the academic oversight of 32 programs. Before joining Stratford, Dr. Gibson worked at Seton Hill University where he served in multiple roles. He was the Director of the MBA Program and an assistant professor of business where he taught courses in accounting, management, strategic management, quantitative methods, and entrepreneurship. He also implemented a specialization in entrepreneurship in the MBA Program. He helped to create the Wukich Center for Entrepreneurial Opportunities and served as its director. The Center served as a focal point for cross-campus entrepreneurship activities and performed research related to entrepreneurship. He further served as the chair of the Farrell Initiative for Entrepreneurship.

Prior to making a career transition into higher education, Dr. Gibson worked for 28 years in the banking industry, including 14 years as the president and CEO of three different community banks. Dr. Gibson started his banking career by working at the Federal Reserve Bank – Pittsburgh Branch. After receiving his MBA degree he worked for Mellon Bank in a variety of positions including commercial lending officer, divisional senior credit officer, and Vice President division head. After that his banking experience included two successful turnarounds of problem banks. His most recent banking experience was as the President and CEO of New Asia Bank in Chicago which was a Chinese American bank that was also classified as a Community Development Bank. During his banking career Dr. Gibson worked with hundreds of businesses and entrepreneurs.

He and his wife, Dr. Regina Gibson, have written 19 papers together including one entitled “Chinese American Online Banking: Multicultural Acceptance of Information Technology,” which received the Best Paper Award in the research category at the 49th Annual Conference of the International Association for Computer Information Systems in October of 2009.
