Sandra received her A.S. degree from the Fones School of Dental Hygiene in 1977, practicing dental hygiene for many years across the country before returning to the University to complete her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Dental Hygiene education. Sandra began her teaching career at the Fones School as an adjunct professor in 2006 and joined the faculty as a full time Clinical Assistant Professor in 2007, Associate Clinical Professor in 2012 and as Assistant Professor in 2013. She currently teaches Radiology Theory and labs, Pharmacology and Dental Hygiene Research both on campus and online in the B.S. Degree Completion Program. She introduced magnification into the program a few years ago, and her areas of specialty include ergonomics and research. Areas of research have included magnification loupes, video-assisted clinical learning, and financial management practices within the profession of dental hygiene. Academic and professional honors include graduating Summa Cum Laude, recipient of the Capstone Writing Prize, the DENTSPLY/ADHA Graduate Student Research Award, and President’s List recipient. Sandra has served as Thesis Chair for Master’s degree candidates. She has presented original research at the American Dental Hygienists’ Association Annual Session, and has published in the Journal of Dental Hygiene.
Sandra is an active member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, the American Dental Education Association, and the Connecticut Dental Hygienists’ Association, serving as President in 2010-2011, President Elect, Vice President, Secretary, Membership Chair, Delegate to Annual Session, and CONN HYPAC Director. She received the Mabel C. McCarthy Award for service to the profession in the State of Connecticut in 2013.
